Lady Eleonor in ganzer Pracht / Lady Eleonor in all her Beauty

So sieht also meine Version aus.

On thursday I have already told you that I have finished my Lady E. So this is my version. Strong and clear colours which are well distributed, don't you think so?
Without tassels the splendid thing is about 1,90 m long and 55 cm wide (40 rows of rectangles). With nearly 650 gr she is very light. I used 600 gr for the knitting and nearly 50 gr for the tassels. What do you think about my version of the endings? I didn't like the fine fringe of the original Scarf-Style-Model. For me they didn't fit to the powerful pattern of the shawl.

It was really a lot of joy to knit this pattern. I was really addicted to knit one rectangle and one more and one more. Usually I say "let me finish just this row" - with Lady E. on the needles I said "let me finish just this rectangle". To stop within? No way! Again and again it was thrilling how the colours would meet each other.

One thing made me a little bit nervous though and that was the permanent turning when I had already finished about 50 cm of the shawl. I remembered that I heard about knitting backwards but I couldn't find any instruction for it. Then I tried an attempt of my own and - hey - it worked! From then on I worked exclusively on the right side of the shawl. I knitted the right side rows and in the wrong side rows I put each stitch from the right to the left needle, then knit it with the right needle and put it back to the left needle. In order to have the stitches in line I picked up the stitch from the back. At first this method took a longer time than the usual knitting but then it worked better and better. Instead of purling two stitches together I knitted them together from the right side. That worked very well and it was good to see that the change of the knitting-method didn't change the look of the stitches. Indeed one has to be aware of yarn-tension when knitting the wrong side row from the right side of the work. I had to tighten the yarn a little bit more than on the right side rows.

On the next picture you have also a look at the wrong side of the shawl which I also find very attractive:

At least: It was a wonderful and a really fast knit. I began with it on January 1st and finished it on January 30th (about 40 hours, nearly one hour per rectangle-row).

Also Susanne,

I found you new on Scarf Style. I love your blog. You do very nice work. The girls sweaters you designed are very nice. I too designed for my relatives and myself a few things. It is very rewarding for me and I am sure it is for you, also.

I lover you Lady E! Please tell us what yarn, needles, and gauge you used. I will be excited to hear from you. Please visit me at http://larkspur-studio.blogspot.com

Hallo Susanne!

Theresia

Susanne, your LadyE is gorgeous, and how clever of you to figure out the backwards knitting :) Congratulations!

Beautiful! I like the uneven border much better than triangles. Great work!

I would love to know how you did your cast on and cast off. What a wonderful treatment for Lady Eleanor!

What a great idea you had for the ends of Lady Eleanor! It gives it a harlequin look with the tassels. I want to try this method next. Beautiful work!

The shawl is gorgeous! I love the colors and how you did the ends in diamonds. Can you share how you did that? I am new to the Entrelac style and I really like the changes you made!

LG Arlene
